SetupsSetups provide much of your key to winning. Don't be mistaken into thinking that you can relax after spending a quarter hour setting up your pieces. Nothing could be more wrong. Like in Chess, relax when you have the advantage and learn not to the hard way. Here are some basic setups I use often. Don't follow them by the book, and varying them from game to game is a good idea. Remember, never use the same setup consecutively unless with different opponents. Plus, don't tell your opponent about your setup after the game (unless your never going to play them again). If you have any suggestions, or would like your setup to be put on The Stratego Site, please send them to papershredder50@yahoo.com Corner Protection Note the Sergeants in the corner waiting for a Miner to hit the Bomb. The Marshal as the primary flag defender in this setup. Although the flag is well protected, this setup is not very defense efficient, and I would not recommend it very often.
Bluff The Flag is up near the shoreline in a bluff to confuse the enemy in to looking in the rear lines. Use minimal Bombs to protect your Flag or your bluff may be found out. Also, keep a powerful piece nearby since Bomb use is minimal. Good luck!
Bomb Corridor The Bomb Corridor defense causes your opponent to lose a lot if they are aggressive. The right side is the best place to counter attack late in the game.
Center Trap Center Trap is an excellent defensive setup; you have good attack position on both flanks and the center is essentially stopped up. The one thing to watch out for is when a Miner disarms the center. For that reason, keep a Colonel back for defense.
O&D The O&D setup is a good setup for attacking hard on the right side. However it is balanced enough that you can still defend from attacks on the left side and in the center.
Left Trap The Left Trap setup is designed with the defense in mind, but is also quite offensive
